My Girl

Conversations with Kendall this morning:

Kendall: Mom, none of my friends have cool music on their ip*d.

Me: Really, what do you mean?

Kendall: Well, nobody in my class but me has David Cook, Chris Daughtry, Bon Jovi, or Rascall Flatts...(dramatic pause)...So, I asked them, "What have you been living under a rock or something?"

Me: Well, Kendall, I guess their parents haven't exposed them to all the cool music like yours have.

Kendall: That's right, mom, you're the best!

Oh yeah...THAT'S MY GIRL!!!!

So a little later we get in the car to take Kendall to safety patrol (one of her many extra-cirricular school activities) and we are talking in the car, we are listening to 107.5 the River (for all of you Franklin-ites - Y107) and there is a song playing from some new 15 year old boy band...the lyrics said "how will I find you" or something like that...(honestly, it is not my favorite station and I wasn't really paying attention)...but once the lyrics were sung Kendall says:

Kendall: You will be able to find me because 1st I'm going to Heritage Middle School, 2nd I'm going to Indepence High School and then I'm going to Ole Miss. By the way, where in MS is Ole Miss?

Me: Oxford

Kendall: That's right...I always just tell my friends MS.

Me: So what do you think your major will be?

Kendall: What's a major? (Dramatic pause)...Oh, yeah, you mean, what am I going to be when I graduate from Ole Miss?

Me: Right

Kendall: A teacher, an archeologist, or a musician.

Oh yeah...THAT'S MY GIRL!!!!

Ice Ice Baby

This is Sam the Cat.

Sam the Cat knows how to stay warm on a 4 degree morning in Tennessee.

If you look closely, you will see that Sam the Cat is laying on the heat vent in MY room.

Basically, he is toasting himself.

No wonder, it feels like Ice, Ice Baby in my room this morning!!!

Trying to stay warm....despite Sam's efforts to soak up all the heat!!!

Let the Good Times Roll

Or as they say at a Mardi Gras Ball....
"Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"

Cousin Jeff and LeAnn, Fer and Nathan and Ryan and I had so much fun at a Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday night. We caught up with old friends, made new ones, marched into the ballroom to the sounds of New Orleans, watched a parade, and saw a king and queen be crowned. It was really cool to dress up like Cinderella, go to a party and just enjoy the evening filled with good friends, good food, good fun and of course, music and dancing!

Orchestre de Jazz:
Les Mesdames: Mel, LeAnn and Fer

Les Messieurs (or as they like to be known - International Men of Mystery): Nathan, Ryan and C. Jeff
Gen Vraiment Hauts Talons (really high heels) should never, ever, never, ever be worn to a ball...they can't be danced in...but they look marvelous with your dress!!!
And when you've sautiller sur place toute la nuite (danced all night)...an ice cold d*c* really hits the spot.
And, of course, Cinderella was at home by midnight with her Prince Charming!!! But was up all night due to said d*c* that really hit the spot!!!

She Blinded Me with Science

An adventure at the Adventure Science Center....starring Kendall, Cheyenne, Reid and Mommy. (Adventure date - 12/30/08. Post date - 1/5/09)

Things that I learned from the science center:

1. Let your child take a friend...then you can send them into the climbing tower and they can take care of each other and you won't have to climb to the top with them!

2. If you let one child take a friend, you really should let the other child take one too.

3. It takes two 5th grade girls and one 1st grade boy (who is giving instructions - not helping lift) to lift a 1988 Fiero.

4. That Reid can find a way to "lay" on the sun...Think - "When I'm walking in the sun, I get so strung out" by the Violent Femmes.

5. Kendall is taller than an Emperor Penguin.

6. That mommy's weight has gained makes her look ALOT like a Chinstrap Penguin - shall we say - short and fat!!!

7. A Tuesday, during Christmas break, on a beautiful day...NOT the best time to attend the science center. Because all the other mom's who thought this would be a great way to break up the Christmas break week are there with their kids!!

8. Reid will find a way to disappear no matter how many times you have told him not to wonder off without the group.

9. Refer back to #6...On Earth, Mommy weighs just about 2** pounds...on the planet Uranus, mommy weighs 157. I look good at 157...Ryan pack the car (or space shuttle)...we're moving.

10. And every good day at the science center should include 3 things...the thing that blows your hair everywhere, the electricity light bulb thing that you touch, and a trip for ice cream when you are finished at the center!

A great time was had by everyone....Thanks for a great day Adventure Science Center!!!

Bazooka Bubble Gum

I bet you did not know that there was a song titled "Bazooka Bubble Gum"!!!

Apparently, Maybelle the chihuahua has trouble with her Bazooka Bubble Gum...she has it stuck to her belly...

And 10 minutes after Maybelle's surgery to remove said bubble gum...Reid enters the room and that is not snot coming out of Reid's nose/mouth....that's right...you guessed it...it is Bazooka Bubble Gum!!!

So, for the Workman's...Next year, please Santa...no bubble gum in the stockings!!!

Have a Safe and Happy New Year's Eve!! We will see you in 2009!!

Carol of the Bells

Carol of the "Southern" Belles and Beaux that is.....

This post is a week late, but it is well worth the wait!!

Ryan, Reid, Sweet Baboo, and I were invited to the 1st Annual Hankins Christmas Caroling party on Monday night, December 22. We had a blast. This is the first time that the Workman's had gone Christmas Caroling. Here is a pic of the whole gang outside at the McCoy's house.

This outing was such a blessing to me!! As you may or may not know, I lost my precious Granny 9 years ago on Christmas day. And for the past 8 years, Christmas has been a bummer!! But this year, God blessed me with great friends who helped me make this year merry and bright!! And as you can see from the picture, it was COLD outside, all those layers made us feel like Randy on "A Christmas Story"!!
We laughed, and sang, and laughed, and sang, and laughed, and sang, and tripped over sticks in dark yards, and Reid thought it was totally cool that Daddy was lighting candles in the car as we approached each home. Then, when we were frozen, starved and all sung out....we headed back to the Hankins for FOOD!!!

There was pasta salad, hot chicken cheese dip, sandwich fixins', mozzarella sticks, jezebel sauce, hot chocolate with peppermint, and PB & J's for the little ones - you know all the good stuff!!! And then....there was the fondue dessert....isn't it pretty?!?!

These are the beautiful angels that made my Christmas wonderful this year....Does it get any better than a great group of BFF's (or for those of you on staff at TSC, my VBF's)?!?!? I love each of you. You are precious and wonderful gifts!!!

And here are our wonderful husbands, friends and fathers that love me and my angels...unconditionally. They have many talents - cooking (see the pic above of the fondue and hot chocolate - thanks Mike Hankins), singing, making us laugh, watching football, chasing down children, and one of them is an all around cabana boy - and he's all mine...I love you, honey!!!

Oh, and the next time that you see Tim Brady, ask him how he has a "Holly, Jolly Christmas"!!!

Many wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

I am temporarily turning off the "project playlist" so that you, my 3 readers, can enjoy the sounds of my sweet baboo (a.k.a. Kendall) play Rockin' Around the Christmas tree song at her piano recital last night. She told me that she got butterflies just before she started playing and they are what caused the "rough spot" in the middle of the song.

All of Mrs. Heather's students did a fantastic job and it was a very enjoyable evening! And this year, we (Bebe and I) made it through the evening without bursting into tears. We even had to laugh when we both started singing the words to the Chipmunks "I just want a hula hoop" as the notes sprung from the piano.

Now, here is what all little brothers do during their sisters piano recital.....they sit on the floor and play legos.

We got home and I had to make a dessert for Friday nights event - check. Then, I had to mix up a hashbrown casserole for Sweet Baboo's classroom party - check, check. As I am mixing up the casserole....this is what I find....

Sidenote - several years ago, my sweet Ryan, made me this fabulous box for our Christmas tree. That way, the tree sits up high and presents can fit all around it and usually my Christmas train goes around the box, but so far this season, it is still in the garage in its box - oh well, there's always next year.

Little did I know that our 4.5 pound chihuahua, Maybelle, would think the stacked presents were a step ladder to the Christmas tree box. Oh, and you will notice Sunshine (our solid black cat) is now sitting on the Christmas box in the background. She thinks that the Christmas tree box is her perch for the months of November and December each year. Of course, Maybelle had other plans for the box and when Maybelle jumped up beside Sunshine, well, let's just say that Maybelle "treed" her first cat!!! So, of course, I yelled -

"Ryan - look at what YOUR dog is doing?!?!?!?!?! and grab the camera!!!"

Merry Christmas!
